Primary 7 children

None of us could have imagined how different this end of term would be. For our Primary 7s, it must be a strange time as they look forward to moving on to The Mary Erskine School and Stewart's Melville College but without all of the usual end of term activities. We asked some of our Primary 7s to look back on their favourite memories of their last year and to share tips for our new Primary 7 classes who are moving up to their final year of our Junior School.

Callum Cameron

I have lots of memories of Primary 7 but my favourite memory is when I scored my first try for Stewart’s Melville at Goldenacre, which is George Heriots' playing fields. It was an amazing feeling.

My top tip for going into Primary 7 is to get involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible because this is a great way to make friends. There are lots of things to choose from so definitely try a few different things to see what you like and to meet more friends.

Layla Wedderspoon

My favourite memory from Primary 7 was the Edinburgh Schools' swimming gala. It was an amazing competition in terms of results for the team and for teamwork and encouragement. It was really enjoyable and so much fun as everyone was cheering each other on in their individual events and in the relays. The relays were the highlight and the swimming pool was full of cheers and shouts of support - the atmosphere was really electric. As a team, we came away with many podium finishes. I personally also came away with a new friendship and stronger bonds with the rest of my swim team.

My tip for new Primary 7s is enjoy your final year of primary school, make the most of all the amazing opportunities and follow your heart in everything you do.

My favourite memory in Primary 7 was going on field trips, because you get to choose someone as your partner and it's not always going to be your best friend. Sometimes it could be someone you don't know that well and you get to bond with that person who could end up being your new best friend.

My top tip for anyone joining Primary 7 is to relax and be yourself. You don't have to put up a show pretending to be someone you're not because everyone will like the real you. Stay safe and hope you enjoy Primary 7 as much as I did!

Thanks Callum, Layla and Aalya for sharing your best memories and tips! Best of luck to you and your classmates as you move into MES and SMC. Everyone at ESMS Junior School is so proud of you and we will really miss you.
