We are thrilled to announce that Connel M (4E) and Charlotte B (3R) have been awarded 1st and 2nd place respectively in the S1-3 category of the National Galleries of Scotland Art Competition for Schools and Families 2020!
Participants were required to create a picture relating to climate change using any materials, techniques or processes they wished, with submissions being judged on ‘originality and creativity’, ‘confident handling of materials’ and ‘boldness and impact’.
Connel chose to create a photographic collage combining various images which tells a powerful story on the concerns of future generations and their living environments affected by pollution.
Charlotte used a combination of graphite and water colours, saying "when I saw that the theme was climate change, I immediately thought of plants. I investigated flowers and thought of the sense of smell and how to smell the flowers you might need a gas mask."
The Galleries were delighted to receive over 1500 entries from across Scotland and after much deliberation, both Connel and Charlotte were selected as prize winners for their age category.
All entries will be displayed at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One) this Autumn and Spring, whilst also being added to their official online gallery for those who are unable to visit.
Congratulations to both Connel and Charlotte for this fantastic achievement!
