On World Book Day, Primary 5 received a visit from the longest-running Blue Peter presenter and children’s author, Konnie Huq. This event was in celebration of ESMS raising almost £100,000 for Read for Good over the last decade.
Read for Good is a not-for-profit which is committed to encouraging more children to read for fun and develop their own love for reading through their sponsored annual Readathons, which ESMS are proud to have participated in almost every year since their records began. The Readathon events are hosted in both schools and hospitals, with family and friends sponsoring pupils per book or per minute of reading. The money raised is used to provide regular donations of new books and storyteller visits to children in hospitals as well as free book vouchers for participating schools. Read for Good has so far managed to provide free reading resources to an incredible half a million children across the UK.
Konnie’s visit was a huge success and the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to create their own storybook, take part in an exciting science experiment and read an extract from Konnie’s new children’s book ‘Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World’.
Thank you to Konnie, Read for Good and every Primary 5 family that has contributed to our Readathons over the years. We look forward to continuing our support for this excellent organisation and helping to “raise money and readers.”
