On Friday 9th of September, The Mary Erskine School hosted its first Coding Expo in the Mar Hall. Over the lunch time period, girls had the opportunity to drop in and speak to visitors from academia and a range of different industries; the one thing that they had in common was that they use coding in their jobs. The girls also had the opportunity to try several interactive activities, where they could control a variety of robots, visualise 3D proteins and take a tour through the human body. The students were lucky to come away unscathed from the MES Robotics Club’s vicious robot viper! A real highlight of the expo was the virtual reality headset, where the girls viewed footage from the Castle Under Siege experience. The event was a real success and we are very grateful for all of those guests who attended to make it possible. Thanks go to the organisations which supported the event: Amazon, Dell Secureworks, Heriot Watt University, Mallzee, Mogworks, Scottish Business Resilience Centre, Skyscanner, Sorpra Steria, The National Museum of Scotland, The University of Dundee, The University of Edinburgh, Toshiba, and TV Squared.
