Current pupil and keen footballer, Finlay Pollock, made his exciting debut in midfield for Heart of Midlothian F.C. in their comfortable 3-0 win against Inverness CT on Saturday, helping Hearts to lift the Championship trophy at just 16 years old.
During his time at Stewart’s Melville College, Finlay had shown great potential in both rugby and football in the U16 teams, before making the decision to focus on his football after having joined Hearts F.C. from the age of 9.
After impressing Hearts manager, Robbie Neilson, with his performances for the Under-18s in recent weeks, Finlay was selected for the first team squad alongside FP Euan Henderson and made his debut in the final 10 minutes of Saturday’s game, coming on for Gary Mackay-Steven to help the team seal their league trophy win.
Speaking after the game, Robbie Neilson told Edinburgh Live that “Finlay is a good player” who he hopes to “get in the team further down the line”. Talking about Finlay's debut, Robbie said “I was pleased when he came on. He will learn a few things from the players.”
Congratulations on your debut from all at ESMS, Finlay! We can’t wait to see what your footballing future has in store for you.
