From Thursday 8th to Saturday 11th September, the MES EYP team took part in the EYP national finals in Liverpool, competing with 13 other regional winning schools, from all parts of the UK. The team consisted of Grace Molloy, Sorna Paramananthan, Charlotte Crawford, Aya Riad, Hannah Geddes, Olivia Sim, Maya Francis, Darcey Lytle and Georgia Tetley.
The team was outstanding in the committee work and resolution writing stage of the selection procedure and went on to dominate the floor debate for much of the two day general assembly. The ten topics covered were very diverse and included, the application of nanoscience, driverless cars, cyber security and measures to combat tax evasion. The girls spoke spontaneously, often without notes and were particularly good at listening to the debate and responding accordingly. They demonstrated kindness, enthusiasm and respect and encapsulated many of the Mary Erskine values which are also central to the EYP ideal. The team represented Turkey at the Eurovillage event and produced a stunning display of food and produce from that country.
For an unprecedented fourth time in the last six years, The Mary Erskine team was selected along with St Paul Boys’ School in London to represent the UK at international sessions. The Mary Erskine girls will now travel to Lake Garda in November where they will work collaboratively with winning teams from across Europe.
