When Mrs McLaren, Head of Year (S2) and Physics teacher at MES, was approached by Ayaana A about organising a Diwali celebration for the school, she was delighted at the prospect of working with the students to share the Hindu Festival of Lights with other students and teachers in the School.
"Over the last few years MES has been working to better embrace and celebrate the diversity within our community. Ayaana organised a truly wonderful event which allowed students to celebrate their culture and share it with their friends and teachers. It also allowed pupils who didn't know much about Diwali to have fun learning and experiencing a culture that was different to their own." comments Mrs McLaren.
Ayaana adds, "This Diwali celebration was a chance for us to share our Indian culture with our non-Indian friends and it also showed that the School is accepting and celebrating cultures and festivals in a way that is more representative."
Mrs McLaren adds: “It was a great pupil-led event and I look forward to supporting more pupils to run similar events, in the future, to help our students learn more about all the different cultures that make up the ESMS community.”
Our thanks to one of our resident photographers at MES, Mrs Horrix for these images, which have captured a beautiful celebration.
