Every year the MES Eco Club come up trumps with a range of initiatives to inspire our community to be more sustainable. The Back to Vintage Pop Up Shop, for Preloved Clothes, was a particularly popular event in this year’s school diary, with Eco Club members working hard to gather donations and then create a pop up shop in the Mar Hall. This year they didn't disappoint. Not only did they increase awareness of slow fashion and sustainability, they also managed raise £1,262.90 for the Environmental Justice Foundation. Over 800 items of clothing were also taken to Pilton Youth and Children’s Project to be used for their Teen Boutique (Teebo).
Sarah Horrix, is a biology teacher at MES and runs the Eco Club. She set up the "Back to the Vintage" initiative in partnership with the students:
"I am so proud of my Eco Club Members who devoted a huge amount of time to organising ‘Back to the Vintage’. The pop-up Shop for Preloved Clothes was a huge success, raising awareness of the negative impacts of fast fashion within the school community, promoting alternatives to sending clothes to landfill and encouraging everyone to purchase and wear preloved clothes. It was a real community event and it would not have been such a success without the hundreds of members of the MES community being involved. The MES community supported Future Vintage so well and fully embraced the ‘slow clothes’ movement."
The Eco-club will be visiting the Pilton Youth and Children's Project soon to see all the good work done by the charity.
