After submitting an entry to the Independent School Parent Magazine’s Independent Prep School of the Year 2019 Award, we are thrilled to announce that ESMS Junior School has been selected as a finalist.
The awards asked to see evidence of success stories that featured both individuals and innovative practice for a judging panel of heads, governors, parents and representatives from across the sector, chaired by Dr Helen Wright, former President of the Girls School Association and Vice-Chair of the Independent Schools Council. We are one of several schools who have been praised by judges for the outstanding student experience that we provide.
ESMS Junior School will be competing with five other schools for the Independent Prep School of the Year award and we are the only Scottish school to have been selected as finalists in this category.
This year saw a record number of entries from a wide range of schools. There were twenty different categories, a reflection of the depth and breadth of the independent school experience. Around 70 schools have been invited to attend the awards ceremony where the winners of each category and the overall ‘Independent School of the Year’ will be announced.
Mike Kane, headmaster, will represent ESMS at the ceremony in London this coming Monday. Mr Kane said “I was delighted to learn that we have been named as finalists for the Independent School of the Year award. It is a significant statement about the role played by ESMS Junior School and something about which all staff, children and indeed ESMS families can be proud. This is a community which works because of the level of commitment and support shown by everyone involved and we look forward to sharing this news with all connected with our School.”
David Moncrieff, Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board at Independent School Parent magazine who run the awards, commented that “…following the huge success of the inaugural competition last year, which saw more than 250 school nominations entered, we are thrilled to have surpassed that figure for Independent Schools of the Year 2019. The awards have again been designed with the student experience at their heart and to provide schools with a platform to showcase their stories of innovation and success. The judges now have a tough job on their hands picking the winners from the shortlisted entries that were of such a consistently high standard.”
We have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in this process so far and look forward to sharing the results of the awards ceremony!
