The sun was shining for our Sports Day on Saturday 22nd June 2019 which saw over 100 children from across ESMS, who had made it through their earlier heats, compete in a variety of athletics events on both the track and field in front of schoolmates and family.
For our P6 and P7 Junior School athletes, there were excellent performances from our P7 Champions; Jamie P and Kirstie D, while Jamie H & Gracie C both ran well to win the Tinniswood Cup and Sharp Trophy for 1500m and 800m respectively. 7DM & 6AT collected the respective class relay trophies in the final events on the track - fantastic teamwork!
Our Mary Erskine School individual winners were:
- S1 Emily G
- S2 Lauren M
- S3 Maddie W
- Open Eve L
- Elliot Shield for High Jump Lily Nicholson
A special mention must also go to Athlete of the Year, Maddie W (S3), who broke the S3 300m record during Sports Day heats and won her year group Championship for a third year in a row!
The winners of individual Championships for Stewart’s Melville College were:
- S1 Hamish Limb
- S2 Benjamin Roger
- S3 Isaac Johnston
- S4 James Campbell / Robert Gordon
- S5/S6 Archie Morris
There were also several Sports Day Records broken at SMC. Joe Ewing set the record in 4.37.00 in The Mile Cup (a mile-long race open to all SMC boys), whilst Isaac J (S3) managed a 1.78m High Jump and Stuart D broke the S5/6 Long Jump record with 6.73m.
Collectively, Galloway House also won both the S2/S3 and S4/S5 House Relays.
We hope everyone had a great day and enjoyed taking part in one of our favourite events in the School Calendar! We are very proud of the effort and sportsmanship each and every pupil displayed.
